Dork Art: Matt Ferguson's Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
Yesterday I posted the latest trailer for Matt Reaves's Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and already master pop artist Matt Ferguson snatched an insta-icnonic moment from the film for his latest poster print. One image and BOOM! Man is done for, this is truly the Planet of the Apes. I am all a tingle for this film. I immediately want to marathon the original films. July can't get here soon enough.

New Robocop Makes His First Move
A few days ago the first trailer for the Robocop remake dropped, and today we get the first poster. I don't want to go all Internet hatey over it (this ain't Batfleck), but I am certainly not optimistic for this February release. I've got a few friends who tell me Jose Padilha is a madman for action with his Elite Squad movies, but the below trailer just screams Total Recall remake. You know, brilliant Verhoeven splatterfest/satire cleaned up & polished for a bored contemporary audience. No thank you. You can toss in all the Michael Keaton, Sam Jackson, and Gary Oldman you want - The Killing's Joel Kinnamen simply seems confused. I want to believe...

Posters: Lawless
Lawless remains one of my five most anticipated films of the Summer thanks to the involvement of director John Hillcoat (The Proposition, The Road) and screenwriter Nick Cave (of The Bad Seeds fame), but I have yet to be fully won over by the trailer or these ridiculous character banners. What is with Labeouf's posturing in the above image? I want to punch him in the face. And Guy Pearce's head below looks friggin' huge! And Gary Oldman has a wonky crook to his neck. Yeah, not at all impressed by these posters. But man, I really want to love this movie and I'm hoping it's as brutal to its characters as the screenplays to The Proposition and The Road were.

New Trailer: The Dark Knight Rises aka Gotham's Reckoning
Time to Break The Bat. I just don't get the backlash I'm starting to see online in regards to The Dark Knight Rises (co-dork Matt, I'm looking right at you). The latest trailer looks pretty damn amazing to me and I like the retooling of Bane's voice. Definitely not as muddled as that opening six minutes we saw last year. And I'm starting to get a good vibe from Hathaway's Catwoman. Can't get here soon enough as far as I'm concerned.

Trailer: Lawless
Finally! The trailer for John Hillcoat's Lawless has been released and I'm even more satisfied with it's placement on last week's Fistful of Summer Anticipation 2012. It all looks bootlegriffic, but Guy Pearce's insane eyebrowless G-Man is freakishly scary; cannot wait to see him turn his rightousness against Tom Hardy & Shia LeBeouf. And who doesn't love a gangster Gary Oldman? But I still hate the new title.

Trailer: Movie The Movie!
I'm betting everyone has seen this by now, but Jimmy Kimmel's epic Movie: The Movie had me busting a gut once the plot was revealed to have a wheelchair bound George Clooney going up against Black Hitler riding an Armageddon Asteroid. And Christoph Waltz flashdancing? Oh yeah, that's sexy.

Dork Art: The BAFTA Brochures
Am I seriously still posting new Drive art?!?!? Why, yes I am! The BAFTAs are this Sunday and they've hired Eda Akaltun & StudioSmall to design their brochure covers based on their Best Picture nominees. The Drive one is obviously my favorite, but that Artist image is also quite cool. Thanks to Slash Film for the heads up.

Trailer: The Dark Knight Rises Trailer
The Dark Knight Rises theatrical trailer is finally here and it is AWESOME! Despite my lukewarm response to the last thirty minutes of the last Bat film, I'm gonna come out and say that this final Bale/Nolan Outing is my most anticipated film of 2012. Don't care what Matt has to say.

Touch of Evil
The New York Times and director Alex Prager have put together a brilliant collection of short films depicting classic cinematic villainy called Touch of Evil. All of them are a lot of fun, but my favorites are Brad Pitt's Eraserhead, Gary Oldman's Fats from Magic, and George Clooney's Captain Bly from Mutiny on the Bounty.

A Fistful of Spies! (Brad's Picks)
I would like to dedicate this list to James Bond. You sir, own every single spot on this week's Fistful; no matter it Connery, Craig, or Lazenby--you are a Dork Hero. Expect someday, A Fistful of Bond...perhaps when Skyfall hits theaters next year. Until, then these are my other favorite secret agents.
5. TIE--Emmet Fitz-Hume & Austin Milbarge (Spies Like Us): John Landis' The Three Amigos seems to get a lot of love these days, but the equally silly (and maybe even more stupid) Spies Like Us is still a ridiculous farty farce that still manages to connect with that stunted 12 year old dropping cherry bombs inside my cinematic soul. Dan Aykroyd & Chevy Chase are a couple of dimwits who stumble into Soviet espionage when the government decides to prop them up as a couple of decoys. Of course, the decoys befuddle their way into various heroic acts and eventually save the day from Dr. Strangelove-like world devastation. This is a kinda Sunday afternoon movie, watch it while eating corned beef from the can.
4. Edward Wilson (The Good Shepherd): I once had a coworker who had done time in the Congo with the CIA. He told me that the one movie that got the Agency right was Robert DeNiro's The Good Shepherd. As he was telling me this all I could think of was that pregnant woman being thrown out of the plane...yikes. The Good Shepherd is a slow burn of a movie, and Matt Damon's Edward Wilson is a sad bastard of a figure. You watch The Bourne Identity for some Spy Vs Spy Bang Bang but when you want to contemplate the psychological horror of spies you watch The Good Shepherd.
3. Scott (Spartan): What gets Val Kilmer's Special Operative Scott on this list is his absolute determination. When the President's daughter is kidnapped Scott won't just sit back and dot the Is and cross the Ts. He'll track the culprits to their sex farm lairs and destroy his superiors who stupidly get in his way. Scott's not your false identity and nifty gadget kinda spy--he's a one shot assassin kinda spy. Brute force. And if you're looking for quick, snappy Mamet dialog--well, it's snappy but not quick. One of his quieter outings and an underrated treat from the '00s.
2. Peter Joshua (Charade): Who the hell is Carey Grant anyway? Peter Joshua? Alexander Dyle? Adam Canfield? Who knows! What is for certain is what a clever dick Grant is with all these spy vs spy shenanigans occurring around poor, confused Audrey Hepburn. The thrill of Charade comes from the circular plot as well as the classy, wink-wink repertoire between Grant and Hepburn. They're just too cool for school.

Trailer: The Dark Knight Rises
Below is the teaser trailer for The Dark Knight Rises that ran in front of all those sold out Harry Potter screenings. I like it. I'm definitely digging how this final film seems to be connecting to Batman Begins. And I absolutely love that last looming figure shot. Summer 2012 seems like a long way off and the Internet is nearly ablaze with Dark Knight hysteria. I'm right there with everybody else.

Trailer: Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
I read the novel way back in high school and the below trailer definitely seems to capture my memory of the Cold War thriller. Plus, that cast is pretty awesome. It's definitely jumped up to the top of 2011's must-see list.
