"Salvation Comes In Many Forms!" - Brendan Fraser Does The King in Pawn Shop Chronicles

A few weeks back I expressed my absolute adoration for Wayne Kramer's Running Scared, and now he's back with Paul Walker in another goofy tale of crime.  This one appears to be heavy on the comedy, but with a cast stacked like this one, you can officially color me excited.  Besides, Brendan Fraser admitting that his influences are the KKK - The King, The King, & The King - has gotta be pure comic gold, right?  Sure, this film has Direct-To-DVD written all over it but I'm hoping for some more weirdo brilliance from Kramer's demented noggin.  And who doesn't like spider neck tattoos?

Dork Art: Mondo Nazgul

I'm not the hugest Lord of the Rings fan (that's the other Dork, Matt) and I've been kinda lukewarm on Mondo's recent Tolkein tributes, but the above Nazgul print is stunning.  Artist Matt Suftin conjures the horrors of Middle Earth beautifully and the below B&W variant is even more striking with it's Night of the Living Dead undertones.  The print is sized at the typical 24 x 36, the regular release will run $50, and the variant $75.  Artist Paolo Rivera also has a print titled "Precious Cargo," depicting Frodo & Samwise crawling up Mount Doom.  It's also $50 and measures 24 x 36.  All three go on sale tomorrow.  Good luck, cuz yer gonna need it.

Teaser Trailer: Elijah Wood's MANIAC

Below is the very arty but still boringly obvious trailer for the Maniac remake co-written by Alexandra Aja.  The original Maniac was one of those films I sought out as a teenager, but can't bring myself to watch these days.  I remember some seriously awesome Tom Savini gore in that film and a really nasty gross performance from Joe Spinell.  But what can this remake offer me?  Creepy Elijah eyes?  Naw, I got all I need from killer Wood in Sin City.

Max Landis' The Death & Return of Superman

Below is the short film The Death and Return of Superman directed by Max Landis (son of John).  And it's pretty darn funny especially if you were actively collecting/reading comics back in the 90s when all this nonsense went down.  Seriously, what's even more depressing is how accurate this rant is in regards to the ridiculous narrative of the DC Mega Marketing Event.  Booster Gold in space, people.  I remember buying mulitple copies of Superman #75 thinking it was going to pay my way through college.  What a joke that era of comics turned out to be...foil covers, Spawns, and Doomsdays.

Anyway, it's a cool little flick from the writer of this weekend's Chronicle.  I hear good things about that found footage movie but I also can't work up the desire to check it out.  Look for small roles below from Mandy Moore, Elijah Wood (Who Is Amazing As Cyborg Supes!), Ron Howard, Chris Hardwick, and Simon Pegg (Who Is Even More Amazing As Papa Landis!).

Elijah Wood is MANIAC!

Geek Tyrant has posted some set photos from the upcoming remake of Maniac starring Elijah Wood.  Man, I can't believer they're remaking Maniac AND I CAN'T BELIEVE ELIJAH WOOD IS IN THE JOE SPINELL ROLL!?!?!?!?  What is this new movie going to be like?  When I first discovered splattery horror films in high school, Maniac was one of the first flicks to truly bother me.  As a High Schooler you don't want to admit that anything gets to you and I would watch Maniac with my friends and put on a brave pizza face.  But Maniac messed me up.  Spinell is scary as all hell.  And Tom Savini's gore effects are top notch gross.  It's the type of movie I don't really have room for in my brain any more and I probably have no space for this new one.  Curious to see a trailer, but I don't think this is gonna be on 2012's Must See list.
