"Don't Freak Out..." Michael Bay's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!

I really like the Ninja Turtles.  I don't love them.  I'm not a super freak.  But I grew up on the old cartoon, and I still think the original 90s adventure is a whole lotta fun.  Yes, I never read the Eastman & Laird comic books...until much, much, much later.  They're cool.  I'm just not a super fan.  So Michael Bay's very Bayish trailer below doesn't really upset me.  It looks like a lotta hopping CGI and it certainly seems to be carefree with the origin.  I'm most curious to hear what this trailer does for the TMNT purists out there...like my buddy Bryan.  What's he got to say about Fichtner, or Mikey's squishy facce?  Comment below!

"God Help Us All!" - Godzilla & Friends Send Us Back To The Stone Age!

Speaking of remakes...

I am seriously loving these Godzilla trailers being concocted by the good folks over at Legendary Pictures.  Focusing on the real world devastation, as well as Gareth Edwards's Christopher Nolan styled approach to Kaiju Horror rather than the beast itself.  We get glimpses of Godzilla (plus other big bad monsters), but just enough to tease without spoiling the effect.  I'm done with the marketing from this point forward.  I want to go into this Monster Epic with as little knowledge of the creatures as possible. Time to start closing eyes in theaters.  I'm committed (in more ways than one).  OH!  And I am sooooo happy that they've kept the H-Bomb horror.  Dare to dream folks, this Godzilla might be the real deal.

Dork Art: Francesco Francavilla's Point Break

Comic Book Superstar & ITMOD Favorite, Francesco Francavilla vented some remake fatigue this morning through his twitter feed.  Point Break 2015 starring Gerard Butler & Luke Bracey, and directed by Ericson Core (the guy responsible for the look of Daredevil, The Fast and The Furious, & Payback).  Does anybody want that?  Not me.  But I'm always rooting for Gerard Butler.  Rocknrolla, Law Abiding Citizen, Gamer.  I love those whacky flicks.  Olympus Has Fallen...well, the man tries real hard.  And I've stated on ITMOD before, and I'll state over & over again - remakes are as old as cinema itself.  Some of your favorite films are remakes - The Wizard of Oz, The Maltese Falcon, A Fistful of Dollars, The Thing, The Fly, Sleepless in Seattle, The Bourne Identity, and The Ladykillers.  So this small handful of films justifies Total Recall, Evil Dead, Carrie, Oldboy, Robocop, Point Break??  Probably not.  I'm just not ready to jump on the hate wagon anymore just cuz the general consensus says REMAKES ARE DUMB.  I'm a film freak with hope in his heart.  Godzilla!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Deserves Still Got Nothing To Do With It - Japanese Unforgiven Trailer Arrives!

I am utterly fascinated by this remake & its trailer.  As you may very well know, Unforgiven is my all time favorite movie.  The first Western I ever saw in the theater, and my first experience with the Clint Eastwood persona.  It lives in a very special corner of my heart.  The idea of a Japanese Samurai Western remake is incredibly appealing.  And I'm surprised (similar to Spike Lee's Oldboy do-over) at how similar this film looks to the original.  The fear being that it's too close to the source to be its own thing.  Whatever the case may be, this has just shot to the top of my most anticipated releases.

Spike Lee's Oldboy Gets A Poster!

This is certainly one of my most anticipated - or feared - films of the fall, but I gotta give props to this screengrab poster for Spike Lee's Oldboy remake.  I certainly don't believe that this redo will reach the levels of depravity of the original film (Elisabeth Olsen certainly won't be succumbing to one particular revenge), but I love the nemesis pairing of Josh Brolin & Sharlto Copley.  I could watch those guys all day long, and I know they can reach the levels of rage experienced in Chan-wook Park's neo classic.  The trailer will launch Wednesday, but those who haven't experienced the terror of the original should do so immediately.  I often cite it as my A No. 1 Revenge Film.

"Leave This Book Alone!" The Evil Dead Remake Trailer is S - C - A - R - Y

Is it me, or does the below red band trailer for the Evil Dead remake look freaking great?  I love, love, love the original film (well, I really dig the first film but it's part 2 and Army of Darkness that really owns my heart) and the initial idea of a remake filled me with all kinds of anxious anticipation.  But this bit of ultra violence shocked me in a way I didn't think possible from modern horror.  Granted, it's just a trailer and it's basically just showing off the gallons of gore that will be splashing all over the screen, and that most certainly does not make a good movie, but I gotta admit that I'm a helluva lot more intrigued now than I was a few moments ago.  Do Not Click If Yer Squeamish.

Poster & Trailer: Evil Dead Remake

That's a pretty bold statement.  And I appreciate the balls your marketing team obviously has, but do I believe it?  No.  But I am interested to see this apparently gory gory gory remake of one of my all time favorite horror films.  The Evil Dead (but more significantly Evil Dead 2 & Army of Darkness) were two of my first horror genre obsessions.  And Bruce Campbell was one of my first Dork Heroes, right there behind William Shatner.  Watching the below trailer is very surreal.  Much more so than when I first saw that Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake trailer or The Thing prequel/remake monstrosity.  No, watching this is much more closer to the experience I had witnessing the new Parker film - is this actually happening?!?!?!?  Apparently.  I've decided to remain positive on this front, and look forward to seeing the results (an attitude I can't seem to muster for Parker...).

Carrie Teaser

As much as I am a Stephen King nut, I've never really cared for Carrie.  And I like the original film even less.  So I don't think I really care about a remake.  Chloe Moretz seems like the obvious choice for the role and I dig the city wide firestorm seen here.  But I'd be lying if I said I was anticipating another remake of this teenage wasteland.

Poster: Texas Chainsaw 3D

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake sequels are not very good.  But they're not terrible either.  Not when compared to the Nightmare on Elm Street or Friday the 13th remakes.  Still, I'm sure this new 3D incarnation will be another January suckfest.  But I do like this poster.  Love the inclusion of the makeup Leatherface from the original series.  Just gross.

Poster & Trailer: Red Dawn Remake

After three years of sitting on the shelf, the Red Dawn remake is finally here.  And I still don't care.  Still, the trailer looks a little more interesting than the above boring Faces Faces Faces poster but I miss my Ruskies...and Pat Swayze.  And hopefully that Hutchinson kid doesn't steal the show from Hemsworth.  Wait-I thought I didn't care...dammit.

The New ED 209

There you go.  No matter how much I don't want it to be, the Robocop remake is on its way and the above redesign of the ED 209 is the CG proof I've been dreading.  I don't know.  I really don't like to hate on remakes.  I don't want to be one of those interent trolls.  But I also just have no interest in another Robocop film.  David Cronenberg's Fly remake had something different to say than the original.  So did John Carpenter's The Thing.  But what else can you say or do with Robocop.  It's one of my perfect films from the 80s.  Nostalgia talking?  Maybe.  But dammit you can't beat Verhoeven's insane, bloody satire.

Elijah Wood is MANIAC!

Geek Tyrant has posted some set photos from the upcoming remake of Maniac starring Elijah Wood.  Man, I can't believer they're remaking Maniac AND I CAN'T BELIEVE ELIJAH WOOD IS IN THE JOE SPINELL ROLL!?!?!?!?  What is this new movie going to be like?  When I first discovered splattery horror films in high school, Maniac was one of the first flicks to truly bother me.  As a High Schooler you don't want to admit that anything gets to you and I would watch Maniac with my friends and put on a brave pizza face.  But Maniac messed me up.  Spinell is scary as all hell.  And Tom Savini's gore effects are top notch gross.  It's the type of movie I don't really have room for in my brain any more and I probably have no space for this new one.  Curious to see a trailer, but I don't think this is gonna be on 2012's Must See list.

Red Band Trailer: 21 Jump Street

Here's another TV to Film project that I certainly didn't ask for; even as a kid I knew 21 Jump Street was a joke of a show.  Now it's an outright comedy starring a creepy thin Jonah Hill and a creepy wooden Channing Tatum.  I'd be lying if I said I didn't laugh at a few of these gags and I'll probably shell out the cash to check it out, but...my general reaction is a roll of the eyes.

The Thing Prequel Poster

Speaking of Not Wanting Something To Suck--The Thing prequel!  Frankly, I could have easily gone my whole life without a prequel to John Carpenter's classic terror film but since that flick itself is a remake of a pretty cool sci-fi gem I'm going to do my best not to Cry Bullshit over this October's release.  The new poster definitely doesn't work for me, it's no Struzan, but this flick is happening.  Fingers crossed.  Thanks to Geek Tyrant for scoring the image.
