Dork Art: Sitting Too Close with Django Unchained

Similar to Scott C's work, I've been a big fan of Julian Birchman's Sitting Too Close.  He has a knack for picking the key images of movie magic.  Titan Books needs to showcase this guys art asap.  But what I particularly appreciate about his latest paintings of Django Unchained are the two scenes he selected.  Django's Last Ride & The Whipping of the Brittle Brothers are my two absolute favorite moments from the film.  I don't have the artistic talent to go all fanboy whimsy on the film, but I'm so glad Julian & I share the same brain so that I may bask in this Dork Art beauty.

Trailer: Stolen

Trespass.  Seeking Justice.  Stolen.  Nic Cage has been suffering on the Direct-To-DVD market lately, and his super fans (like myself) have been suffering right there along side him.  I freaking loved last year's Drive Angry, and even found ways to enjoy Season of the Witch.  But Ghost Rider 2?  Even with Neveldine & Taylor, the thrill just wasn't there.  And Stolen looks to be on par with the mediocrity of Trespass & Seeking Justice.  Seriously, what's with the trailer narration?  That voice isn't even trying.    And as much as I love Cage & director Simon West's Con Air, this looks like a (really, really, really) poor man's Taken.  Stolen will play theatrically for just one day, September 14, and will quickly be forgotten on the home video front.

Still, it's got a great B-movie cast in Josh Lucas (he's trying to out Cage Cage here), Danny Huston, Malin Akkerman, and MC Gainey.  And I'll probably buy the blu like I did Tresspass, Seeking Justice, and every other freaking Cage movie that's ever existed.  Either I'm a masochist or just a really hopeful film fan.

Trailer: Django Unchained

Woot!  It's finally here, the first trailer for Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained complete with Johnny Cash and James Brown theme music.  Leonardo Dicaprio sorta steals my heart in the trailer, can't wait to see more of his villainous outbursts.  And yeah, that's MC Gainey taking a bullet.  Cool.  "The D Is Silent."

Poster: Stolen!

Here's the poster for Nicolas Cage's latest doomed-to-direct-to-DVD flick Stolen which sounds a lot like Taken.  Cage is a thief who goes hunting for his missing kidnapped daughter that's apparently been placed in the trunk of Josh Lucas' cab.  The film also stars Malin Akerman, Danny Huston, Mark Valley, and MC Gainey.  And it's directed by Expendables 2 helmer (& Con Air & Tomb Raider)  Simon West.  I'll check it out as soon as I see that other lost Cage film Seeking Justice.
