Dork Art: Gizmos & Gadgets

Love, love, love.  Artist Mark Lones illustrates one of the classic confrontations in cinema: Gizmo vs The Spider Gremlin from Gremlins 2 - The New Batch.  The piece was done for Bottleneck Gallery's Gizmos & Gadgets show running till February 3rd in New York City.  To promote the event the Geek Tyrant website will be giving away a Gizmo print.  I've already entered, you better too.

Trailer: The Hole

If I had to pick one director whose films defined my childhood it would have to be Joe Dante.  Gremlins, Explorers, The Howling, Gremlins 2, The Burbs, Inner Space, and Matinee.  I seriously cannot imagine a childhood without those movies.  They are an essential ingredient to the film freak that I am.  And when I got older I discovered the genius of his Roger Corman era: Hollywood Boulevard, Piranha, and a million billion exploitation trailers.  So the idea of Dante back behind the lens of a new kid centric flick is incredibly exciting.  Sure, The Hole has been sitting on shelfs for a few years now, but the below trailer seems to have some of that 80s Kid Adventure charm that I crave (FYI, this week's Paranorman has that in spades).

Apparently The Hole will be getting a short theatrical run on September 13th, but if I can't see it on the big screen I will most certainly be buying the DVD.  Especially considering I own every single Dante film available.  Yes, even Loony Tunes: Back In Action--cuz that movie is AWESOME!

Kickstart This! That Guy Dick Miller

Ok internet, we need to make this happen.  Filmmaker Elijah Drenner is trying to get his Dick Miller doc off the ground and he's turned (like a million billion other folks) to Kickstarter for a little help.  Often, I just dismiss these wannabe ventures, but Dick Miller is a man close to my heart.  He's appeared in a gazillion of my favorite films including Bucket of Blood, Gremlins, Explorers, Big Bad Mama, Fly Me (yeah, you read that right), The Terminator, Piranha, The Howling, etc etc etc etc...

Anyway, if you need a little more convincing than click right HERE.  There are some nifty incentives to free you from your dollars including high fives and associate producer credit.  I know I'm going to be turning over couch cushions looking for spare dimes and nickels.

Dork Art: Mondo Gremlins 1 & 2

Mondo and Phantom City Creative are at it again.  Three beautiful posters celebrating two of my all time favorite monster movies, Gremlins 1 & 2.  Ken Taylor brings us the first poster and it's a definite beauty. Phantom City's New Batch poster is nice, but I'd like something a little more badass or crazy coming from Dante's bonkers sequel that I sometimes prefer over the original.  Both go on sale at a random time tomorrow.
