New Release Tuesday (4/12/11)!!!

Must Buy DVD of The Week!

THE INCREDIBLES (BLU):  I'm in a constant state of inner turmoil:  What is the best Pixar film?  2009's brilliant old man pulp adventure Up or The Incredibles, the perfect family exploration of Marvel's Fantastic Four (what a shame that Pixar had to show Marvel how it's done).  I don't know what the answer is, both films are perfect in my eyes.  What I do know is that no film released today can match the glory of The Incredibles.  Not only is it a great Fantastic Four film, it's also probably the best Super Hero movie ever put to celluloid.  Plus, there's this:

Buy!

DIRTY MARY CRAZY LARRY / RACE WITH THE DEVIL:  Are you one of the poor wretched fools that didn't enjoy this year's Drive Angry 3D?  Well then I'm guessing you have never seen the exploitation brilliance of Race With The Devil.  Warren Oates and Peter Fonda are a couple dirt bike aficionados, who along with their wives, witness a satanic sacrifice in the woods and are pursued/hunted by the cultists for the remaining running time.  As Harry Knowles says, before The Road Warrior, Race With The Devil had the best Highway marauder assault chase.  Dirty Mary Crazy Larry is nowhere near as enjoyable as Race With The Devil, but it definitely has it's moments.  Hippies on the run from the law shenanigans.  Since I've already posted the Race With The Devil Trailer on this blog for Roger Corman's B-Day, I'll give you Dirty Mary.  "Remember Robert Mitchum in Thunder Road?  I'm Gonna Powder His Face!"

BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS (BLU):  There seems to be some confusion out there in Internetland as to whether Shout Factory will be releasing this much-loved Roger Corman flick today or not.  Their website's got no date, so I'm guess it's a no-go.  But if by some delightful miracle it does hit the street today than you should totally pick it up.  Another Roger Corman Star Wars Cheapie, but man, Sybil Danning's getup.  It's worth the blu.

"Does Your Species Have Kissing?"  "That's A Hotdog, It Comes From Earth."

HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS PART 1:  The Potter films sorta lost me with Order of the Phoenix and The Half Blood Prince, but Deathly Hallows Part 1 returns the franchise to its proper spot at the top of kiddie flick mountain.  Although, this series really has stopped being for kids.  Deathly Hallows is incredibly dark and rather scary in bits.  Plus, Harry & Hermione dancing to Nick Cave in a tent?  That's awesome.

Rent!

ADVENTURE, INC:  I want to get to work like the staff of Adventure, Inc!  I'm sure this show is terrible, but I do love Michael Biehn and I want him to succeed in life.  It's a Netflix.

Avoid!

COUNTRY STRONG:  Tender Mercies, Coal Miner's Daughter, Crazy Heart.  We Do Not Need Another Country Music Hero Movie.  And we definitely don't need one from Gweneth Paltrow.  Please, stay away.
