The Passing of Elisabeth Sladen (1948-2011)
I was greatly saddened this evening to find out that Elisabeth Sladen had passed. She is hardly the first beloved Doctor Who cast member to die, but she was special. She was my first companion, with my fist Doctor when I tuned in to the story Robot at random one Saturday afternoon in the early 80s. And from that moment on, she has always represented the spirit of Doctor Who for me. Its heart.
She put a stamp on the show almost as profound as Tom Baker himself. And it only made sense that she would show up in the new series and be just as well loved as ever. Following that success, she starred in four seasons of the very fun Sarah Jane Adventures, a more kid friendly spin-off of the new Doctor Who.
Smart, curious, beautiful, and ultimately strong, Sarah Jane was and is a great character in the halls of science fiction, portrayed by a charming and graceful actress, who will be missed.
